I first started as a clinical supervisor in 2018 within my role as a senior lecturer in CBT on the University of Staffordshire PGDip course.
Since that time, I have had the pleasure of supervising numerous qualified and trainee therapists over the years both in NHS and private sector environments, including those seeking their own accreditation as supervisors.
I have also been the Course Clinical Lead since 2021 for both the University of Staffordshire and Keele University High Intensity CBT PGDip programs, and as part of this role, I have led the creation and delivery of the specific Workforce, Training and Education (formally Health Education England, HEE) funded Clinical Supervisors training course - a requirement to be a supervisor within Talking Therapies.
From these years of experience, I hope that I can provide supervision that maintains fidelity to the model whilst also understanding the adaptive means in which clinical cases may necessarily need to be conceptualised, and how cognitive and behavioural interventions can be creatively utilised to be most effective.
I am also a firm believer in the notion that traditional ‘case discussion’ is but one method of exploring cases, and that there is a whole toolkit of means to improve efficacy of supervision, including (but not limited to) skills training, ‘live’ supervision, role-plays etc.
